1980 Jan - Benton, Maine
Many years ago, in Benton Maine, on my way home from work (It was in
January, cold, clear night at around 1 AM) I notised a bright light on a
road over a hill that I did not usually travel. Curiosity got the better
of me so I drove that way to investigate.
On top of a hill, by a house trailer, long since vacant, I saw something
that is best discribed as a sparkler like object, round in nature with a
very white light. I stopped my car and got outside for a better look.
At this time, the object turned to a bright orange, or yellowish color and
left at an eratic pattern, trailing a green vapor trail.
I have never mentioned this to anyone other than my familily, but I was
wondering if anyone else has seen anything like it.
This happened sometime in the 1980 or 82, it was a long time ago and I
can't really remember. Shortly after this time, whoever lived in the house
trailer moved from the area. I never contacted them for the obvious
reason. What would you say to someone anyway. "Hi, just wondering if you
had any visitors the other night?" Then along comes the looney van and I
am eating soup through a straw, surrounded by padded walls.
This area of the country is also very much a Dairy Farming comunity.
Several animals had been reported missing. Most folks just figured it was
rusttlers and no more was thought of it. Some of my friends who lost some
cattle said that although there was snow on the ground, there were no
tracks, either man made or from a vehicle, which would be needed to
transport the cattle.
Also in a loose housing setup, no far from where I saw the light, propably
1/4 mile, a cow had been trampled in a stampeed, inside the barn, and had
her back broken, she had to be put down.
What would cause such a panic inside a loose housing barn. The south side
of the barn was open to the outside.
This has bothered me for sometime, I did not mention what I saw to the
farmers. WE were all perplexed over the issue though.
